Global Equities encompasses Equity Derivatives, Prime Services and Cash Equities. The Cash Equities business line provides research, advisory, distribution, execution, corporate access, and corporate broking services on equities globally to institutional investors and also serves as the distribution arm for BNPP’s equity capital markets transactions. Cash Equities Advisory incorporates a number of different services to institutional investors, including Research, Specialist Sales and Corporate Access.

Job Purpose

Purpose: As a Director in the APAC Equity Research business in the Quality Control team, the role holder will be accountable as a functional expert managing high standards of review in their relevant area of specialism as a Supervisory Analyst. The role holder will work closely with research analysts to ensure research product is both high quality and fully compliant with all regulatory and compliance policies prior to publication.

Core accountabilities of role

  • Reviews, edits and challenges analysts’ financial forecasts, valuation analysis and investment thesis. 
  • Engages with research analysts to ensure that research adheres to both regulatory and firm requirements and meets the highest standard of quality.
  • Edits non-native analysts’ reports, making sure the language is flawless and the messages clearly conveyed.
  • Leads the review of a variety of equity research publication templates including initiation reports, thematic research, long-form and short-form research.
  • Develops and manages operational initiatives in line with relevant policies, procedures and any relevant regulatory requirements or professional codes of conduct, to enable optimal business outcomes and optimise profitability. Supports high-value business through high-quality analysis. 
  • Acts as a thought leader in their team, proactively seeking to identify, propose and implement innovative ideas to improve the services and products offered.
  • Operates predominately autonomously, under general supervision, exercising sound judgement on when to escalate more complex issues to more senior team members. 
  • Maintains open communication with the team and direct line management in order to support them with the completion of projects and collaborates effectively with internal stakeholders across the broader equities business.  
  • Complies with all applicable legal, regulatory and Group’s internal compliance requirements as well as Code of Conduct including, especially, Financial Security, Fight against Corruption, Know Your Customer due diligence, Client Interest Protection, Market Integrity, Professional Ethics and Respect for colleagues.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience

  • Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required. Professional qualification, or suitable extensive experience in the relevant technical area, preferred.
  • FINRA Series 16 licensed
  • Strong experience in the Financial Services industry, and in researching, analyzing and setting out views on areas relevant to specialism.
  • Good working knowledge of a wide range of professional standards and protocols relevant to Equity Research, with the ability to apply this knowledge to improve BNP Paribas processes and practices.
  • Ability to quickly adapt their behaviour, style, approach, priorities, communication or working methods according to the needs of the task, individual/group, situation, constraints and circumstances. 
  • Excellent people management skills and an ability to work with individuals to set individual objectives and manage performance to ensure their delivery.
  • A highly effective communicator, someone who can present complex ideas / strategies and critical messages to large, culturally diverse and unfamiliar audiences skillfully.

Competencies / Qualifications

  • Proven interest and enthusiasm for equity research, valuations and equity investing. 
  • Demonstrable interest or experience in one or more of the Industrials sub-sectors will be considered advantageous. 
  • Strong analytical skills (including MS Excel modelling) and high attention to detail, as well as well-developed written and spoken communication skills. 
  • Hardworking, enthusiastic, resilient and organized with strong inter-personal, collaborative and team-working skills. 
  • Fluency, spoken and written in English is required, while fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) or another Asian language (e.g. Japanese or Korean) is an advantage.
