Job Description

The Head of Industrials Equity Research, APAC, will be instrumental to the expansion and development of BNP Paribas’s APAC research capabilities. Reporting to the Head of Cash Equity Research, APAC, the role will be responsible for leading a team providing high quality and comprehensive coverage across the various industrial sub-sectors, including but not only, capital goods, autos/electronic vehicles, components, new energy, logistics, etc. Leveraging on the well-established and market-leading BNP Paribas Exane brand (Europe’s leading research house as ranked by Institutional Investor), the hired individual will work closely with colleagues with APAC, as well as in Europe and the US, to build and develop the team’s research coverage, corporate access offering, and client franchise.

The role will be based in Hong Kong.


  • To assume coverage responsibilities on a subset of companies within the broader industrials complex, and to develop and sustain a market-leading individual client franchise. 
  • To hire, develop, and manage a team of writing analysts, as well as supporting research associates.
  • To develop and maximize the team’s client franchise by ensuring the highest possible research quality and offering a full suite of research offerings, including corporate access.
  • To develop and embed the BNP Paribas Exane research brand and client-centered culture through a strong focus on sector and company fundamental research within well-defined thematic frameworks.
  • To optimize the team’s performance through setting appropriate targets, monitoring KPIs, developing talents, ensuring compliance with external regulations and internal standards, and embedding good conduct and the right behaviors.
  • To work with all relevant partners to maximize the team’s client impact and ensure alignment with BNP Paribas’s research activities in Europe and the US.

Competencies / Qualifications

  • Proven team leadership experience, including but not limited to, leading-by-example, hiring, management and development of high quality talents, with a demonstrated commitment to the right behaviors and highest conduct. 
  • A strong client franchise within the industrials sector with established relationships across all types of international / institutional investors.
  • Experience of running teams across countries and time zones, as well as collaborating and coordinating with colleagues based in Europe and the US. 
  • A research style which emphasizes differentiated fundamental company research within well-defined thematic frameworks.

  • To assume responsibility for the quality and frequency of the team’s research product.
  • To develop and deliver new differentiated ideas and products to maximize client impact.
  • To work with internal business partners to maximize the value of the research product.
  • To support research colleagues on new projects, events, initiatives etc., as required. 
  • To ensure the team’s adherence to all required internal and external standards and frameworks.
