BNP Paribas’s APAC region includes following territories, Australia & New Zealand, Greater China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), South East Asia (including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), India, Japan, Korea, and others. 

The EIS APAC team is located in Hong Kong (EIS: Etudes industrielles et Sectorielles, Industry Research).

The main missions of EIS APAC team are:

-To contribute to the development of BNP Paribas Corporate client base, by proactively identifying commercial prospects corporate in key sectors exhibiting sustainable growth potential.

-To identify new priority sectors at CIB request in the frame of client franchise development.

-To analyse sectors of interest for RISK management or business development purpose in APAC. 

-To produce review and/or screening on companies at the request of CIB APAC or RISK APAC (e.g. for screening or credit committee).

-To provide unbiased and independent judgement / industrial opinion.

Position Purpose and mission: 

BNP Paribas is creating a new position of Industrial and Sector Expert for APAC (1) region that will cover the Power sector and particularly Renewable Electricity projects, to analyze the performance and prospects of its clients in the growing context of the energy transition. He/she will also play a role of local interface on Low Carbon transition topics and share expertise on ESG in general. This expert will be part of the EIS Industry Research (2) team and appointed in BNP Paribas’ Hong-Kong offices. 

(1) BNP Paribas’s APAC region includes following territories, Australia & New Zealand, Greater China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), South East Asia (including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), India, Japan, Korea, and others. 

(2) Industry Research department, or « EIS » Etudes industrielles et Sectorielles in French.

The EIS team is composed of industrial and sector experts, mainly with engineering backgrounds.  Their main missions include: 

-Conducting unbiased and independent industrial, competitive, strategic, and financial diagnostics of companies or projects across APAC region, in support of credit decision-makers for medium ?term risk assessment (conventional credits, structured financing, acquisition financing, and project financing). This support involves transactions that are important to the bank, providing internal advice up to the level of the General Management. 

-Developing sector analyses to facilitate the development of the credit portfolio under controlled risk conditions and to anticipate market reversals, particularly by anticipating developments and disruptions. These analyses target a wide range of stakeholders within the bank, including at a very high level. 

-The present expert will carry out these missions in the Power sector (electricity generation, transmission and distribution), in close cooperation with EIS central team located in Paris headquarters. –The focus will be on renewable electricity projects financing while assisting the bank in supporting its ESG, energy and ecological transition in line with recent announcements by the Group

Key Responsibilities:

-Main mission will consist in the assessment of Power corporates and projects (i.e. electricity generation, transmission and distribution), with particular focus on Renewable electricity development (photovoltaic, wind turbines, hydro, batteries for storage …). In relation with the EIS team in Paris.

-To contribute to internal sectoral studies about this rapidly evolving sector in APAC (including growth, energy mix, regulations, market prices, transition scenarios, etc.). 

-To play a role of local interface coordination with business and risk teams regarding Low?Carbon technologies deployment, across industries and along their value chain, in close coordination with EIS Paris team (Low-Carbon capital goods, Green H2, CCUS, bioenergy…). Possibly and depending on his/her profile, the person might be entrusted to analyse progressively corporates/projects linked to transition towards Low-Carbon activities in various sectors. 

-To support more generally global EIS anticipation studies on ESG matters. 

-To share expertise and contribute to the insertion of ESG matters in the credit assessment in APAC. 

Communication and Efficiency:

-To interface, to develop interactions and to enhance networking with the main stakeholders of which Investment Banking CIB APAC, RISK APAC, and EIS Paris.

-To work closely with EIS Paris, to fulfill EIS’s best practices and quality insurance procedures, and to ensure compliance with BNP Paribas processes.

-To efficiently communicate pertinent and concise opinions at credit and screening committees.

-To debrief industrial sector studies to BNP Paribas APAC employees and management.

-To be exposed to BNP Paribas APAC including at high level, and to safeguard EIS / Industry Research positioning as the reference for industrial knowledge of the covered sectors.

Professional Qualification / Candidate Profile: 

-Ideally someone who wants to highlight his/her skills acquired within actors in the Electricity sector in connection with projects for the energy transition, and acquire new ones in economics, finance, ESG, and corporate strategy. On job training will be provided, particularly in financial analysis, to meet the needs of the Bank. 

-Engineering degree or equivalent university degree. 

-Minimum of seven years of experience in the electric power industry (especially in renewable energies in APAC countries) within a sector company, a consulting firm, or as a financial analyst/credit analyst, and has competence in management/finance. 

-Knowledge in other Low-Carbon transition technologies (especially in Solar Panels) is an advantage, as well as relevant knowledge on complicated ESG environments across APAC territories. More generally, considering the diversified or uneven developments on climate/ESG/renewable initiatives across territories in APAC region, the candidate should prove his/her ability to have & acquire relevant knowledge across APAC territories, considering each territory unique situation 

-Fluent in English writing and speaking. 

-Ability to analyze and synthesize rigorously, to communicate his/her opinion in writing and speaking with impact up to General Management level, to understand risks, and a real taste for reflection and knowledge sharing. Combined with his/her strong autonomy and adaptability, as well as capability to provide unbiased and independent judgement, these skills will be assets for success in this position.
