As an illustration to its commitment to Asia Pacific and to tennis, BNP Paribas has extended its partnership with the prestigious year-end WTA Finals in Singapore. The
BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global was staged at the state-of-the-art Singapore Sports Hub on October, 2014 – the first time an Asia-Pacific city has played host. The Finals will once again be hosted on Sunday 25th Oct to Sunday 1st Nov, 2015.
Tennis sponsorship in Hong Kong
In 2014, the Bank was once again the title sponsor for the 2nd BNP Paribas Showdown in
Hong Kong, which took place on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 and featured four world renowned tennis players in the form of two back-to-back matches: first with Li Na (Asia’s first Grand Slam champion) vs. Samantha Stosur (former US Open champion) and then Lleyton Hewitt (former No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion) vs. Tomas Berdych (current Top 10 player). In 2013, Wimbledon finalist and former World No. 2 Agnieska Radwanska, took on former two-time year-end World No. 1 and Grand Slam finalist Caroline Wozniacki while eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl renewed his rivalry with John McEnroe, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, during the event in Hong Kong.
BNP Paribas has been the title sponsor of Davis Cup since 2002 in Hong Kong. The tournament began in 1900 as a competition between the USA and Great Britain. It’s now the world’s largest annual international team competition in sport, with 130 nations entering in 2011. Hong Kong first joined as a participating nation in the Davis Cup in 1970. Hong Kong’s best Davis Cup performance came in the late 1980s and mid 1990s. It competed in Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in 1989 and also between 1993 and 1995.
