Asset Management – Group Integrated Functions – Legal Counsel

ROLE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE

The candidate will be deployed in the APAC Regional legal team of BNP Paribas Asset Management. The candidate will be primarily responsible for co-ordinating our support in China and Taiwan but will also work with the Hong Kong-based legal team providing support across the region. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Draft, review, negotiate and amend various agreements such as distribution agreements, service level agreements, confidentiality agreements, outsourcing agreements, broker terms and conditions  and other non-business specific legal documentation (in relation to various areas such as HR, IT, Finance and Investments);
• Provide sound legal advice relevant to the different business lines (to the various areas such as Sales, Investments, Compliance, HR, and Management);
• Assist in the provision or coordination of company secretarial matters in China and Taiwan;
• More generally, to support the Head of Legal, Asia and Senior Management across APAC;
• Provide updates for legal and regulatory watch; and
• The candidate will be heavily involved in managing legal work independently, in collaboration with the other lawyers of the legal team.

KEY INTERNAL / EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

• Internal: Group legal team, management, Client group, investment teams, HR, Finance, IT, Compliance etc
• External: external counsel, company secretary, service providers etc

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Qualified lawyer in a commonwealth jurisdiction with at least 5 years post-qualification experience from an international reputable law firm and/or top tier financial institution. Relevant experience in fund/asset management will be considered as a major advantage;
• Fluent in English and Mandarin (both written and spoken); and
• Practical knowledge of the Chinese regulatory environment including FMC and Securities Company structures.
